Finished!

I made this last year as the sample for a " block of the month" program I did for my local guild. I did the appliqu�� in the carpool line after school many days in a row, and finally machine quilted it. I finished the binding today.

A Wedding gift...

for a special couple!

My sister in law Carolyn asked me to make this quilt as a wedding gift.

(Notice the not-so-willing quilt holders!)

She chose the colors and pattern, and I had so much fun quilting it!

I hope the happy couple loves it too!

How the farmer's wife became the pilot's wife...

No, I am not revealing a secret prior marriage!

I've been working on the quilt from the book called The Farmer's Wife by Laurie Hird. The only problem is that there are no piecing instructions or cutting directions. The templates on the CD are given one per page, so that they would have to be printed out on dozens of pieces of paper (such a waste!)

So, I began with the simple blocks first and used the directions offered on several different blogs and websites. But the blocks started getting more complicated and the math more confusing. My seam ripper was getting way too much use!!

I started altering the blocks to make the math easier, the piecing simpler, and getting better results. So now these blocks aren't really the ones in the book anymore. Some are similar, but some are not even close! More than two thirds of the blocks in the finished quilt will be mine entirely. I had planned to use a different setting from the very start. I also changed the color scheme to red, cream and tan so that it would look pretty in my bedroom.

But after all these changes, I felt it only natural that the name needed to change as well. Since I am married to pilot, it only makes sense to call it The Pilot's Wife, at least I think so!

And THAT is how the farmer's wife became the pilot's wife. No messy divorce or tragic death, just a simple transition from one set of blocks to another.

Now if I could just find easy solutions to all my challenges.

This week...

We had a visit from Mimi and celebrated her birthday!

And Buddy got his summer cut.

And Bailey continued to look pitiful for no reason at all.

 

Recent conversation at our house...

We finally snagged the new sneakers that the boys had been wanting for weeks!

I asked David: are your feet happy?

David replied: not really, but my eyes are happy when they look at my feet!

Love that boy.

On a less funny note, this boy has a heel growth plate injury/fracture. He's out of commission for at least three weeks. If the first course of treatment doesn't work, he will be trading in one of those cool sneakers for a walking boot next week. Poor kid!

Farmers Wife progress...

I've decided to finally tackle this quilt.

These are the first 25 blocks. I plan to make 99 and set them on point with red alternate blocks and a red border for my king size bed. I've started with the easiest ones first, so progress may slow considerably. Especially since the book has no instructions or accurate size drawings. They are six inch blocks and I've drafted one for paper piecing so far...wish me luck, I'm going to need it!

She ran...

as fast as she could. She didn't place in the 100, but it was close!

And she took the handoff in the 4x400...

and closed the gap...

but it wasn't enough.

Still,

I couldn't be prouder

if she had won an olympic medal.

 

 

The Bulloch Hall Quilt Guild Annual Show...

is this week in Roswell.

It's located in this historic home.

There are loads of pretty quilts hanging.

And a few (or 7) by yours truly.

I get to spend the day there tomorrow.

It was a blur!!!

Literally...Kelly's first track meet that is!

She ran the 4x100, 100, 200 and 4x400(anchor!)

Here's 3/4 of the 4x100...Desiree, Jessie, and Kelly.

And Annie, Kelly and Jessie (neck and neck) going for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the 200.

After the handoff, Kelly does her thing...fast!

And getting some sweet talk from her coach!

How was that for a first attempt at the 4x400? Awesome!

Too bad they didn't have any fun!?! hahaha
