Our third day of quilting and city adventure included a guided tour of Central Park. It was a fascinating mix of design and history told by the perfect New Yorker. She was an authentic native, and her accent left no doubt about it! It was great!
The weather was beautiful, and so were the sights!
Next we walked to the Lincoln Branch of the American Folk Art Museum for the special quilt exhibit.
The theme of the exhibit was STARS.
It is also the home of the 9-11 Memorial Quilt.
This was such an intense quilt...there really are no words to describe how it made me feel. I just kept thinking "There are too many names on that quilt...far too many names."
And then we took the bus down to SOHO for a visit to Purl Soho. It is an amazing shop filled with needleworkers dreams! It has an amazing array of yarns, threads, fabrics, etc. I just might have bought a bundle of fabric, or two. Maybe.
All that shopping made us hungry, so we grabbed a cab to Madison Square Park and spent quite a bit of time in Eataly. If you have not heard of this place...it is an experience!
We walked through the different markets (all Italian) and at at one of the 7 restaurants (again all Italian themes.) We chose the pasta and pizza restaurant and split a dish of each. YUMMMMMMMMM. It was so good.
We also enjoyed talking with some natives who were sitting next to us.. They had also enjoyed the red and white exhibit! SO many people were there for the special exhibit, and we kept meeting them! It was wonderful.
I think I gained weight just walking by this section.
Finally, we took the bus back to the hotel, where we promptly fell into bed! We spent some time flipping through the books we had bought and fondling the fabric bundles. But mostly we just basked in the amazing memories we had made yet again that day.
Seriously, could it get any better?
Sadly, we had to pack up our things and get ready to leave the next morning.
Luckily, we flew home with bags full of fabric, cameras full of pictures, and hearts full of wonderful memories! Thanks to my trusty travel companion Mary Ruth, we had many laughs along the way!
And a special thanks to my wonderful husband who entertained and educated our 3 kids while I was away...I am such a lucky girl!
